3 Course BBQ Dinner at Riverway Clubhouse
Take a look at what we got for dinner.
Course #1 – Choice Menu of Soup or Salad
To start the dinner, you have a choice of soup or salad. Mr. Chau got the chef’s soup & toast, which was roasted parsnips and garlic. The soup was creamy and flavourful as roasting the parsnips really brought out their sweetness. I picked the sweet corn and edamame salad. The salad was interesting because this is the first time I’ve had a salad with bbq sauce! I found the smokey, tangy and slightly sweet bbq sauce a bit overpowering. It also made the salad felt heavier. Between the two starters, I prefer the soup.
Course #2 – BBQ Dinner
The main course is the BBQ dinner which includes baby back ribs, 1 whole chicken leg, spiced fries, roasted corn and cole slaw. The baby back ribs were not fall-off-the-bone tender and I’d personally prefer the chicken to be more charred. But for $25, I’m not complaining! Flavour-wise, both were finished off with bbq sauce and between the two, I’d say the ribs were the winner. No surprises with the roasted corn or coleslaw, but the spiced fries is worth mentioning! I’m guessing they used some sort of bbq spices on the fries and they likely double fried them because they were delicious! While we couldn’t finish all the protein off the plate, we kept munching on the fries because we knew they would not taste the same the next time day. Note: The fries were mushy after we reheated them the next day but they were still very tasty!
Course #3 – Dessert
Finally my favourite course for every meal: dessert! The chef’s creation for the night was a liege waffle topped with vanilla ice cream and strawberry compote. YUM! This dessert have everything that I love! This dessert was not overly sweet which is perfect for me. The slight tartness in the strawberry compote balanced out the sweetness in the ice cream and waffle.
Overall, I’d rate this dinner 4/5. I’m definitely coming back to this hidden gem because $25 per person, this BBQ 3-course special is a great value for great food and service. Let me know if you’ve visited Riverway Clubhouse in Burnaby.
